WHAT IS A DOMAIN NAME?
A domain name is your address on the World Wide Web. IndoScot can register a wide range of domain names for you e.g. .com .com.hk .biz .info .cn .co.uk .net .org etc. If you do not see a domain you would like please email us at sales@indoscot.com.
Should I choose .net or .org or .com or ??? .COM and .NET often refer to commerce and business, .ORG to non-profit making organizations, .EDU to educational establishments. However the choice of .org .net .com .com.hk is entirely your own preference - though restrictions may apply to some specific domains like .edu.
HAVE A DOMAIN NAME ALREADY?
If you already have a domain name but wish to use IndoScot for your Email or Web Hosting you can transfer your domain name for use with IndoScot. This is usually a fairly straight forward process and takes around 24 hours to complete.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REGISTER?
This depends on the domain you have chosen. Most domains will be active in a few hours (although 1-3 days is not that unusual). For .com.hk however the process can take 14 days. This is out of the control of IndoScot.
WHAT WILL MY ADDRESS BE?
If you register a domain e.g. artworldhk.com then your web address becomes www.artworldhk.com. Although artworldhk.com will also work.
WEB HOSTING
WHAT IS WEB HOSTING?
Your domain name is like an address. If IndoScot is hosting your website then IndoScot is where your website is living. Your website needs to 'live' on a special computer called a web server - IndoScot provides that special computer.
HOW DO I GET MY WEBSITE ON THE INDOSCOT WEB SERVER?
One way is by FTP. You can download a free FTP program from a number of sites. E.g. WS_FTP LE is a free FTP program available from www.tucows.com.

The FTP settings will simply be ftp.yourdomain.com e.g if you registered artsworldhk.com then your FTP program will need the address ftp.artsworldhk.com, your username, and your password.

HOW DO I KNOW IF PEOPLE ARE VISITING MY SITE?
Web statistics is included in ALL of our packages. If your domain name is artsworldhk.com then simply enter the web address: -http://stats.artsworldhk.com and this will take you to the web stats page.
SEARCH ENGINE SUBMISSION / OR HOW DO I TELL PEOPLE ABOUT MY SITE?
A website can be a very useful tool for businesses and individuals alike. IndoScot will submit your site to dozens of search engines including the major ones e.g. google, yahoo etc

PHP is a widely-used scripting language that is especially suited for Web development. You may have noticed that IndoScot uses some PHP.

WHAT IS PERL?
Websites can perform quite complex functions. These functions can be programmed in a number of programming languages including PERL.

WHAT ARE FRONTPAGE EXTENSIONS?
Designing your website with Microsoft FrontPage? FrontPage can use extensions which IndoScot stores on our server for you. This allows you to simply insert a Hit Counter, Confirmation Field, Search Form and other commands directly using FrontPage.
DOES INDOSCOT SUPPORT FRONTPAGE EXTENSIONS?

WHAT ARE SERVER SIDE INCLUDES?
SSI provides a number of commands that allow data to be dynamically generated for your web page. A common command is #include which simply includes another file in your web page. E.g. you can create a common header in a single file for all your web pages and use the #include command in each page to 'insert' that file. If you wish to change the header you simply edit that file and not every web page.

WHAT IS FLASH?
IndoScot uses flash in our help movies.
Many sites now come with some movie animation - often as an introduction to their site. Flash is a common technology to produce these movies.
IndoScot supports this technology meaning that you are free to add Flash to your site with no further consideration.
To see the flash movie visitors to your site must have flash installed in their browser (plug-in). In many cases this is already the case, otherwise they will be prompted to download the file.

WEBMAIL
HOW DO I ACCESS MY WEBMAIL ON THE INTERNET?
If you have registered artsworldhk.com then you can access your webmail from http://mail.artworldhk.com.
WHAT IS POP3?
Using Outlook Express / Outlook / Eudora / Netscape Mail? These and other programs that allow you to download your emails to your computer use POP3. Refer also to IMAP.
IndoScot's Webmail system uses POP3 allowing you to download your emails to your computer as you would with any email address provided by your Internet Service Provider. Additionally our webmail also allows you to download emails from other accounts which use POP3. So you can integrate your IndoScot provided email account into your existing email or vice versa.

DOES INDOSCOT SUPPORT POP3 ACCESS?
Yes, for checking your webmail account and for checking other pop3 accounts using your webmail.
WHAT IS IMAP?
Using Outlook Express / Outlook / Eudora / Netscape Mail? If so you can choose to use IMAP. IMAP like POP allows you to access, read, delete and download your emails from your mailbox. Additionally IMAP is better than POP at synchronizing emails e.g. deleting an email in Outlook Express will also remove it from your mail box on the server

HOW DO I ACCESS MY WEBMAIL USING AN EMAIL CLIENT (e.g. OUTLOOK EXPRESS) / POP3 ACCESS?
You can access you webmail from an email client e.g. Outlook Express / Eudora Mail / Netscape Mail etc.

The webmail system provided by IndoScot allows you to access, read, and store other POP3 email accounts.

With this you can have several email addresses all directed to one central email.
Example:
sales@business.com -> partner@business.com
enquiry@business.com -> partner@business.com
info@business.com -> partner@business.com
DOES INDOSCOT SUPPORT EMAIL ALIASES?
Yes.
WHAT IS EMAIL FORWARDING?
Users can forward their E-mail to another E-mail account. Similar to call-forwarding / call-divert.
Example:
E-mail sent to yourname@indoscot.com can be forwarded to yourname@yourmail.com
